Use Any Pendrives or Memory Stick to Ready Boost Your Vista

ReadyBoost is a new feature in Microsoft's Windows Vista that uses flash memory on a USB 2.0 drive, SD card, CompactFlash, or other form of flash memory, in order to boost system performance.
Unfortunately, Vista refuses to use slower flash memory. well if you have any flash memory of 256mb or higher here's how to get around this limitation and use any USB stick or card you have to increase your computers memory.

  1. First Plug your device in. cancel AutoPlay , and go to Computer in the start menu. When it pops up,right click your device and rename to a unique name, then again right-click the device and select properties.
  2. select the Readyboost tab on the properties menu and check Do not retest this device. Click okay and unplug the device from your computer
  3. Press winkey + R then type regedit and press enter. The registry window should load up.

Using the left-hand pane, work your way through the following folders: HKLM (Local Machine) -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion -> EMDMgmt. You'll have a list of USB devices the computer has encountered, one of which should be your USB stick.
It will look some thing like this:
    _??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_&Prod_USB_DISK_Pro&Rev_PMAP#07571600003C&0# {53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}@R33F_2290012782
where the red part should be the unique name that you used for the device.

Here there's a few details you need to edit. Double click on Device Status and change the value to 2, then ok. Do the same for ReadSpeedKBs and WriteSpeedKBs, changing their values to both 1000. Exit the registry window.
  4. Now insert the device back in and once again go to the device properties (Computer > Right-click on drive). If you look under the Readyboost Tab, you'll be able to now select Use this device. Success! Now enjoy your faster PC.
